11. Configure access control to grant or limit access to specific VTS functions. See Configuring
User Accounts on page 97.
12. Configure the user interface as described in Configuring Web Interface Preferences on
page 115.
13. Write labels to the virtual tapes from the host server as described in Labeling virtual
tapes on the host server on page 68.
14. Verify EMS settings by running a labeled backup on each VTD.
15. If you want to use the HP System Health Application, Insight Management Agents, and
Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) to monitor VTS, you must configure them. See

techniques on page 125 for more information.
16. Back up the database and configuration files as described in Backing up the VTS server
on page 119.
To maintain VTS
• Manage the virtual tape drives (VTDs) as necessary, such as renaming VTDs according to
your chosen naming convention. Also, create and manage pools and tapes as necessary.
See
Creating and Managing Virtual Media on page 65.
• View and save log files. See Log files on page 133 for more information.
• Start and stop processes, including the main TapeServer process, from the Manage
System Tasks page.
• Power on and off the VTS system as described in Powering up and down on page 121.
• Maintain the file system (run fsck) and view file system (vault) status from the System
Status page. See
Maintaining the file system on page 122.
• Monitor backups and restores from the Manage Virtual Tapes page.
