You may use Autocopy and Instant DR separately or at the same time. However, if Autocopy
and Instant DR are used simultaneously, it should be noted that they may not be run on the
same virtual tapes. For example, you may run Autocopy on vtapeA in PoolXYZ while also
running an Instant DR job on vtapeB in PoolXYZ. However, you cannot run Autocopy on
vtapeA in PoolXYZ and then immediately run an Instant DR job for PoolXYZ in its entirety.
This is because vtapeA will be in use and locked by Autocopy. In this case, the Instant DR job
would fail.
Configuring network settings
You must configure network settings for all VTS locations. To configure the local system, you
must attach a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to the VTS server. To configure remote systems,
you must use a remote-access application to access those systems, or perform the steps at
each site. The IP address, which will differ for each VTS server, must be configured at the
local and remote sites. Consult your network administrator to determine the gateway and
subnet mask to use for each system.
In addition, you should be familiar with networking concepts to complete the steps in this
section. Obtain the following information before beginning this procedure:
• Root access to the VTS system; see the Configuration Guide for a list of the default
accounts provided on the server
• IP address, subnet mask, and gateway of each VTS server
The following steps use two sites as an example of enabling Data Replication between two
sites, Boston and Los Angeles, connected by a wide area network (WAN):
