Virtual TapeServer 8.3 Release Notes

Known Issues | 24
The status of tapes shown in the Virtual Tapes page may not be current. When
tape operations occur outside the Virtual Tapes page, the tapes shown in the Virtual
Tapes page may be out of date. Removing a large number of Virtual Tapes can also result
in out of date information. (TL-7996, TL-8026)
WORKAROUND: A manual refresh for a single tape or clear cache for the entire page
will update the cartridge information to the latest available.
Pools may appear empty on the Manage Virtual Tapes page while the virtual
tape cache is being built or rebuilt. Populating the virtual tape cache when there is a
large number of virtual tapes on the system can take some time. This can result in some
pools showing as empty because they have not been processed yet. It may appear that
virtual tapes have been removed until all pools have been processed. (TL-7632)
Creating the virtual tape cache on the Manage Virtual Media page can be slow.
(TL-7550)
Manage Virtual Tapes page may hang when filtering on pools. (TL-7266)
WORKAROUND: Click Virtual Tapes on the navigation pane again.
Erase, Delete, Import/Export buttons missing from Advanced Virtual Tapes
page. These buttons are missing after upgrading. (TL-7300)
WORKAROUND: Log out of the web interface and log in again.
Cartridge cache does not update after adding cartridges to filesystem.
Subsequent attempts to refresh cache does not place data in filesystem. (TL-7363)
WORKAROUND: Click Clear Cache to update the cached virtual tape information.
Clear Cache on a system under heavy load will cause the wrong tapes to be
displayed. Under heavy load, virtual tape information may take longer to refresh. (TL-
7406)
WORKAROUND: Wait for system load to reduce and click Clear Cache again.
Mount button is not available when browser is not maximized. The outer edge of
the Mount button is selectable but the rest of the button is not. The Window menu on the
Configure Tapes and Pools page covers most of the Mount button except the outer edge.
(TL-6982, EAR-8148)
WORKAROUND: Maximize the web browser so that it is full screen.
Web interface does not use the selected magazine for a VTL. Instead, the web
interface uses the magazine that was created with the VTL, even if a different magazine
is loaded using the Advanced Virtual Tape pages. (TL-6548, EAR-7672)
WORKAROUND: Move cartridges from the new magazine to the old magazine and use
that instead.
Virtual tapes in a VTL are not shown as locked on the Manage Tapes and Pools
page. Operations that require a lock still fail as expected for cartridges that are in a VTL.
(TL-5969)
Manage Virtual Tapes page becomes slow when streaming data and sometimes
throws an Internal Server Error. When data-intensive tasks are occurring in the
background, accessing the Virtual Tapes page can cause request timeouts. (TL-6667)
WORKAROUND: Wait for the operations to complete and try again.
Virtual tape appears to be created in a locked pool but is not. If you attempt to
create a virtual tape in a pool that is locked, the operation fails even though the
“Successfully created” message is displayed. (TL-1903, EAR-4286)
