Virtual TapeServer 8.3 Release Notes
Known Issues | 30
Incorrect error message displayed when attempting to create a VTL on a bus
that has more drives than LUNs. When attempting to create a VTL on a bus that has
more drives than LUNs, the error message is incorrect. It states, for example, “Unable to
create VTL with the specified number of drives as bus 4 lun 8 combination is already in
use”. The indicated LUN does not exist and, therefore, cannot be in use. (TL-4466)
VTL creation may only be done as the first device on a port starting with LUN 0.
If a device already occupies LUN 0 on a port, VTL creation will fail indicating there is
another VTL present even if the device already occupying LUN 0 is a virtual tape drive
and not a VTL. (TL-5948)
Manage Virtual Devices page does not select available values when creating
VTDs. If you attempt to create a VTD after other VTDs have been created, the Manage
Virtual Devices page does not automatically select available values for the LUN and
target. If you do not change the values, the creation will fail. (TL-3491)
WORKAROUND: Modify the LUNs to unused LUNs, modify the target, and then save.
Then, change the LUNs back to the original LUNs.
Cannot create a VTL if LUNs 0, 1, and 2 are not free. If you try to create a VTL, it
will fail and indicate that there can only be one VTL per bus, though no other VTLs are
defined. LUN 0, 1, and 2 must be free. (TL-4063)
Cannot delete VTD in VTL. If you edit a VTL and reduce the drive count to remove a
VTD that is included in a VTL, an “Insufficient number of VTD licenses” message may be
displayed if you are at the maximum number of VTDs for your license and you cannot
delete the VTD. (TL-3982)
System Settings
Settings for disconnected tape drives and libraries can be edited. Although a tape
drive or library may be shown as “disconnected” on the Manage Settings page, the
physical drive settings can be edited. Changes made to the device settings are saved
independent of the device's state. (TL-6388)
Edit System Settings page can timeout if the drives are busy or being used by
scheduled jobs. (TL-6376)
WORKAROUND: Wait until the jobs are completed and drives are not in use to view or
modify drive information.
Cannot delete devices that are offline. There is no means to delete devices that may
no longer be available or accessible on the System Settings page. (TL-5790, EAR-7548)
Reports
No destination given in Export Report. If an error occurs while connecting to a
remote host or device, the Export report will not indicate this though the export fails. (TL-
6312)
Access Control
The Manage Access Control page may not render correctly using a Firefox
browser on Windows or Linux platforms. Large brackets ([) may appear on the
Manage Access Control page when using a Firefox browser on Windows or Linux
platforms. This is only a cosmetic issue and does not interfere with any functionality. (TL-
8099)
