Virtual TapeServer 8.3 Release Notes
Introduction | 1
Introduction
Virtual TapeServer (VTS) is a fully integrated virtual tape, hardware and software solution.
VTS offers complete disaster recovery capabilities. As a primary repository for data center
backups, VTS can be used as secondary tiered storage for replicated data to meet disaster
recovery requirements.
Overview of features
Release 8.3 introduces the following new features and support to VTS:
• Policy Based Actions - Policies can now be created, in which certain events will trigger a
certain action to occur. Events that can trigger a policy action include exporting,
replication, importing, encryption, decryption and unmounting. Actions that can be
triggered include a stacked export, tape to tape export, replication to a target, remote
export, mount, encryption, erasure, import from tape devices, and import from a
replication target.
• New Tape and Pools Page - A new Tapes and Pools page has been created that enhances
the way tapes and pools are created. From this page you can create tapes, as well as
create, rename, delete and edit pools. This page provides access to the storage report, in
addition to displaying the total number of tapes, pools and available space on the system.
• Improved Navigation - Tapes can now be erased, deleted, encrypted and decrypted from
the Virtual Management page. You can now navigate to the Mounts and Lock page from
the Administration menu. A link to the Scan/Cleanup page has been added to the
configuration menu, and the user interface provides a link to the Managing Virtual Tapes
page.
• Model VT5900-Q (DL380G8) has been added.
• Support for WORM media for LTO-3, LTO-4 and LTO-5 has been added.
• The M8605 LTO-4 autoloader can now be used as a stand alone drive with VTS.
