Virtual TapeServer 8.4 Release Notes
Resolved Issues and Enhancements | 13
Jobs (general)
A job name which contained a space or special characters would cause the job
to fail with the error: “Missing backupSystem in jobset”. Now, any spaces in the
name are converted to underscores when the job is saved. Special characters are not
allowed in job names. (TL-7736, EAR-9006)
Manage Virtual Tapes and Manage Tapes and Pools (Advanced
Operations)
The Data Size column of the Virtual Tapes pages reported 0 Bytes in use for all
cartridges. Now, the Data Size column will report the correct amount of data. (TL-7783,
EAR-9049, EAR-9438)
A pool containing a large number of virtual tapes took longer than expected to
be displayed on the Virtual Tapes page. This issue has been resolved. (TL-8445, TL-
515, EAR-10561)
The cartridge cache did not update after adding cartridges to the filesystem.
This is no longer an issue in version 8.4. (TL-7363)

degraded as the number of systems grew. This issue has been resolved. (TL-3041,
EAR-4912)
An attempt to create a virtual tape in a pool that was locked, failed even though
the “Successfully created” message was displayed. This issue has been resolved.
(TL-1903, EAR-4286)
Access Control
Some actions on the Advanced page did not appear for a user belonging to the
Operations group. This issue has been resolved. (TL-8405, EAR-10854)
A user in the Administrator group was unable to add additional groups using
the Add Groups function on the Access Control Page. This has been resolved. (TL-
8429, EAR-10944)
Large brackets ([) may have appeared on the Manage Access Control page when
using a Firefox browser on Windows or Linux platforms. This issue has been
resolved. (TL-8099)
Certificate Management
When the SSL certificate for Data Encryption (SecureVTS) expired, it required
removing and re-adding the key server. Often this process failed which required the
key database to be reloaded from a backup. Now, the Configure Data Encryption page
includes a Re-certify localhost button that will regenerate and re-add the certificate. (TL-
8358, EAR-10591, EAR-11269)
A SSL certificate that was set to expire within 24 hours, would automatically
regenerate using the SHA256 authentication instead of the SHA1 authentication
which is used under normal circumstances. This could have caused some Internet
Explorer installations to lose access to the VTS web interface. This issue has been
resolved. (TL-8123, EAR-9460, EAR-9472)
