Virtual TapeServer 8.4 Release Notes

Resolved Issues and Enhancements | 14
VTL
Entering a VTL serial number larger than 10 digits caused the creation of the
VTL to fail. The input field for the VTL serial number is now limited to 10 digits. (TL-
8195)
A tape that was moved from a drive to the I/O port in a VTL, would only be
partially removed from the VTL and would be unusable afterwards. Now, the
tape will be moved out of the VTL and placed on the shelf where the I/O Port leaves it.
(TL-8188)
Tape-to-tape export and import (native export and import)
The job status of a failed import/export job was reported as a success. This issue
has been resolved. (TL-8187, EAR-10333)
A SCSI ID conflict may have caused the device listing to show incorrect devices.
This is no longer an issue in version 8.4. (TL-6489)
Remote export
The remote export action now tests the tape for changes after an unmount
event. A “Skip If Unchanged” option has been added, so the remote export job will not run
if the tape is not changed. (TL-8154, EAR-9655)
No error message was reported if a typo in /etc/hosts caused remote export to
fail. An error will now be generated. (TL-6984, EAR-8107)
Backup management application support
Every time a new tape is mounted, it was shown as offline in Backup Exec. A
newly mounted tape is no longer shown as offline. (TL-7617, EAR-8795)
EMS
The Event Management System may not have started after a system restore.
This was due to the ownership of the file /usr/local/tape/log/ems.log being changed. This
issue has been resolved. (TL-8112)
If EMS triggered a task that took longer than the keep-alive timeout value,
when the task was complete the keep-alive would be listed as lost and the
connection would be reset. This issue has been resolved. (TL-8481, EAR-11226)
If the web server was restarted, a conflict with UDP port 80 may have prevented
it from restarting. This issue has been resolved. (TL-7494)
Using device names beginning with $ resulted in the values for ems_hostdevs
and ems_virtdevs being blank in the logs. This issue has been resolved. (TL-1562,
EAR-4030)
VTDs intermittently stopped on NonStop if the tapeserver was restarted
repetitively. This issue is no longer seen in version 8.4. (TL-1844)
