Virtual TapeServer 8.4 Release Notes
Known Issues | 18
Connection issues may occur when using 4Gb Fibre Channel cards. Connection
issues can occur when using the 4Gb Fibre Channel card directly connected to AS/400 on
v5r4. When it comes up as private loop, there are issues seeing the devices. Also, if the
host resets, VTS runs out of resources in the driver and the VTD is lost. Contact Support
if this issue occurs. (TL-6698, EAR-7772, EAR-7918, EAR-9416)
Compression setting for tape drives is not altered from the default value after it
has powered on. Most tape drives default to compression on; VTS does not change this
setting, which may cause exports to fail. (TL-6564)
Ethernet link present when no Ethernet cable is connected. When configuring the
network, the netconfig tool sometimes shows a link is present when no Ethernet cable is
connected. This can be safely ignored. (TL-6817)
Updating the source system information on the replication target following a
source system replacement does not rename files and database records. When a
source system is renamed on a replication target system because of a serial number
replacement, all data associated with the original system must be renamed or replaced
and permissions adjusted. Contact Support if this condition comes up. (TL-5806)
Error displayed on boot up after configuring external storage. An error may occur
on bootup after configuring external storage vaults: ioctl32(cmaidad:7855): Unknown cmd
fd(6) cmd(c054420b){00} arg(ffdf4690) on /dev/sg0. This message can be ignored. (TL-6004)
Using double quotes in the vts.conf file produces inconsistent results. Attributes
set in the vts.conf should use either single quotes or no quotes. (TL-5738)
SCSI speed is 3.3MB/s after TapeServer is restarted. If TapeServer is stopped and
started, the SCSI speed is negotiated to 3.300MB/s. (TL-4434)
WORKAROUND: To negoti
ate at 160.000MB/s, reboot VTS.
If the controller ID and the host SCSI ID are set to the same value, kernel panics
occur. Kernel panics occur on VTS if two devices are set to the same ID. (TL-2303)
WORKAROUND: W
hen using SCSI VTDs, make sure the SCSI controller ID is set to
something different than your host machine's SCSI ID. Contact your Support
representative if need assistance changing the controller ID.
ACPI Exception messages are displayed and logged during boot. At boot time,
messages similar to the following may be displayed on the system console and in /var/log/
dmesg. These messages are benign and may be ignored. (TL-2280)
ACPI Exception (acpi_processor-0681): AE_NOT_FOUND, Processor Device
is not
present [20060707]
ACPI: Getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x2
Call Trace messages may be displayed on the console. These messages can be
ignored. (TL-3032)
General operations
If the last modified timestamp (ctime) of a virtual cartridge is older than the
cached timestamp of the VTS appliance, the virtual tape cartridge is not shown
in the VTS. This issue may occur if older cartridges are brought into the system such as
on a cluster or newly attached storage, or if the VTS had a system clock which was set
wrong but later corrected. (TL-8234)
