Introduction | 1
Introduction
Virtual TapeServer (VTS) is a fully integrated virtual tape, hardware and software solution.
VTS offers complete disaster recovery capabilities. As a primary repository for data center
backups, VTS can be used as secondary tiered storage for replicated data to meet disaster
recovery requirements.
Overview of features
Release 8.4 introduces the following new features and support to VTS. Refer to online help for
information about using any of the new features.
A virtual tape can now be
copied from a DATA partition to a VAULT partition through the
Hosted Data page.
A virtual tape can now be moved from one pool to another.
Up to 4 digits may be used to specify virtual ta
pe size. Previously, only three digits could
be specified which limited the size of a virtual tape above 999GB to 1TB or 2TB.
Updated WAN acceleration which boosts performance and
resolves network loading
issues.
Locks are now sorted by virtual tape name on the Mounts/Locks page.
Stacked Export jobs can now be configured to allow the export of empty cartridges.
VTS now includes emulation for LTO-5 tape drives.
When autocopy is setup, the number of retries
can now be configured.
The amount of time VTS waits before retrying a mou
nt request can now be configured in
the configuration file. This can be used to reduce the number of “unable to mount due to
drives not being available” events generated.
A list of virtual tapes can now be part of the system restor
e image, the list will be used to
recreate empty tapes in the vaults when the system image is restored.
VTS now supports a Quad port 8GB Fibre Channel HBA
