Virtual TapeServer 8.4 Release Notes

Known Issues | 44
Virtual tapes are split though target vault is invalid. A virtual tape is split into
multiple streams during a remote export even when the target vault is invalid. Once the
file is split, replication will fail due to the vault being invalid. It should detect the error
before splitting the file. (TL-4267)
Rebooting while Replication is splitting files leaves a running job. Rebooting
while replication is splitting files into multiple streams during a remote export leaves a
running job and does not remove the split files from the temporary directory. (TL-4265)
WORKAROUND: Rerun the replication job
after reboot.
Instant DR allows the creation of cartridges with invalid names. Instant DR can
create a cartridge on the target server that contains an underscore or other special
character in the cartridge name. The Instant DR job succeeds and the pool with the
cartridge is created on the target. However, you cannot expand the pool on the web
interface; it disappears. (TL-4287)
Keep alive options cannot be set for multiple streams over RSH. This has been
enabled for SSH (for remote exports) but not RSH. (TL-4260)
Aborted error message listed in debug log when Instant DR job is dispatched.
When an Instant DR job is dispatched, the debug log displays this message, though
Instant DR function properly. (TL-3940)
Tue Dec 01 13:39:06 2009: IDR Backup Set “/usr/local/tape/etc/IDR/
IDR_JOB
1.syncjob” already running; execution aborted!
Autocopy not performed if tape was not unmounted before reboot. Autocopy is
not performed if a backup was completed but the tape was not unmounted before a system
reboot. (TL-3847)
WORKAROUND:
Mount and unmount the virtual tape.
Autocopy retries occur more often than every five minutes. If VTS must retry an
AutoCopy operation, it should retry it every five minutes for 12 attempts. Currently, it is
retrying the operation more often than five minutes. (TL-3849)
Autocopy locks the source cartridge but not the target. VTS is not locking and
could cause the cartridges to be corrupted if they are used on the remote side. (TL-2529)
AutoCopy may create pools on a server that could not otherwise be created.
AutoCopy may be used to create pools on a VTS server that could not otherwise be
created, such as having both a 'TEST' and a 'test' pool. (TL-0868)
WORKAROUND: W
hen using AutoCopy, you may need to review of all AutoCopy pools
to ensure that there are no duplicate pool names and correct for any such occurrences.
Online help incorrectly describes the All Files option. In the online help provided
on the Instant DR page, the All Files option is described as follows:
“This option pertains to the use of wildcards
in the source cartridge name. If All Files is
not checked, then only the most recently modified file in the set of cartridges identified
with the wildcard will be backed up. Checking All Files bypasses this selection process
and causes all of the wildcard identified files to be backed up.”
The description should read as follows: “Select the
All Files checkbox if you want to send
all the files listed in the job to the remote system. If you do not select this checkbox, only
the newest virtual tape (determined by the timestamp) is transmitted.” (TL-0369)
