VT5900-SA Benefits
Cost-Effective Fibre Channel Connectivity
2 Gb/s connectivity for entry to mid-range tape libraries
With a 2 Gb/s Fibre Channel port and maximum throughput of 80 MB/second, the VT5900-SA
integrates HVD SCSI tape libraries into high-performance Fibre Channel storage networks. The
VT5900-SA supports the increased throughput requirements of new, faster tape drives. With a
simple two SCSI port and one FC port design, the VT5900-SA is the cost-effective choice for
storage routing.
Ease of Use to Reduce Storage Network Management Costs and Complexity
The best out-of-box user experience in the Virtual TapeServer SCSI-to-FC Adapter industry:
The VT5900-SA is significantly easier to install than other routers. With Visual Manager, service
professionals and end users simply “point and click” on a graphical representation of the router for
configuration. LUN-zoning technology ensures accurate device mapping and security. Leading
interoperability ensures that the VT5900-SA works well with other SAN components.
Easiest Virtual TapeServer SCSI-to-FC Adapters to configure and manage
The VT5900-SA enables individual storage devices to be managed as an integrated system rather
than as a collection of stand-alone devices. The VT5900-SA includes Visual Manager, a powerful
software management tool for storage networks that defines how SAN devices share resources.
The user gains the ability to manage routers and access tape device information from any computer
with a web browser. The VT5900-SA includes an embedded web server so that Visual Manager
runs as a web application. Visual Manager is a graphical user interface unique to routers. Other
routers require a software agent to be loaded onto the computers used to manage the router, adding
complexity to installation and reducing access to router and tape library information.
High Performance for Faster Backups
Support for 2 Gb/s FC enables improved data exchange, which in turn speeds operations for
backup and restore. The VT5900-SA backups up and restores existing data in significantly less
time, or in increasingly larger data sets within the customers’ current backup window.
