Chapter 6
Using Visual Manager
This chapter describes the Visual Manager. The current configuration and operating status of the
VT5900-SA can be accessed from many standard Web browsers, after the user logs in with the
appropriate username and password. Information is presented in HTML format in accordance with
the W3C specification for HTML 3.2. Current W3C Recommendations and other technical docu
-
ments can be found at http://www.w3.org/TR/.
Visual Manager allows access to configuration settings such as:
Baud rate of the serial port
Fibre Channel address
Ethernet IP and MAC addresses
Device Mappings
Trace level settings
Most settings may be changed and saved.
Accessing Visual Manager
1. Connect a 10baseT or 100baseT Ethernet cable to the VT5900-SA.
2. Apply power to connected SCSI and Fibre Channel devices.
3. After all the devices have gone through their power up routines, boot up the VT5900-SA.
4. Turn on the host computer.
5. If the IP address for the VT5900-SA is known, open the host computers Web browser and
enter the IP address into the Address field. See the Network settings for DHCP in this chapter
and in Appendix E.
If you do not know the IP address of the VT5900-SA, connect to the VT5900-SA using the
serial (RS-232) connection. Current settings can be viewed and changed from the Network
menu.
Note: Unless otherwise indicated, configuration changes take effect when the unit next powers
on or reboots.
Note: If VT5900-SA is to use a static IP address, use an address that is appropriate for the IP net-
work it will reside on.
