3. Perform any site-planning tasks needed for the SWAN concentrator. This site
planning can include planning cable routing and determining where the SWAN
concentrator should be installed. General site planning is described in the NonStop
NS-Series Planning Guide or the NonStop S-series Planning and Configuration
Guide.
4. Add the SWAN concentrator to your system configuration as described in
Configuring the SWAN Concentrator on page 4-17.
5. Install the SWAN concentrator. Installation steps are described in the SWAN
Concentrator Installation and Support Guide or the SWAN 2 Concentrator
Installation and Support Guide.
Planning for LAN Communications
A SWAN concentrator is connected to a NonStop S-series server through two Ethernet
ports (A and B) to two ports on the same or different E4SAs or G4SAs (for fault-
tolerant configurations, different adapters are recommend) or to one port on a FESA or
GESA (since FESAs and GESAs only have one port). An Ethernet connection can be
made directly to an adapter or indirectly through Ethernet switches, hubs, or routers.
A SWAN 2 concentrator is connected to an Integrity NonStop NS-series server through
two Ethernet ports (A and B) to two ports on the same or different G4SAs or on the
same or different VIO enclosures (for fault-tolerant configurations, different adapters or
VIO enclosures are recommended).
A dedicated local area network (LAN) is required for the SWAN concentrators, the
Ethernet adapter ports that connect the concentrators, and (if used) the Ethernet
switches, hubs, or routers (For more information, see Connecting the SWAN
Concentrator Through Ethernet Routers on page 4-6). A dedicated LAN includes only
components specified by HP; no other access to the LAN is permitted.
You must perform these steps to prepare for LAN communications:
1. Determine which E4SAs, FESAs, GESAs, or G4SAs and which ports on those
adapters will be used to connect the SWAN concentrator through Ethernet
ports A and B.
2. Identify the TCP/IP processes and SUBNETs that support the adapter ports you
selected in Step 1.
Note. A G4SA can be installed in an I/O adapter module (IOAM) enclosure or can represent
the Ethernet ports in a VIO enclosure. (The VIO enclosure is supported in H06.08 and
subsequent H-series RVUs.)
