Step 1: Selecting E4SAs, FESAs, GESAs, or G4SAs
A PIF corresponds to a physical port and has the form:
adapter-name.sac-unit#.pif-unit-letter
For example, G11123.0.A identifies port A; G11123.0.B identifies port B, and so on.
Displaying the Configured LIFs
Use the SLSA subsystem SCF INFO LIF command to determine the LIF name
configured for each port on each LAN adapter you intend to use. For example, LIF
L11123B is associated with PIF G1112.0.B and LIF L11123D is associated with PIF
G1112.0.D. (These values are shown in boldface type in the following example.)
Connecting the SWAN Concentrator Through an Ethernet
Hub or Ethernet Switch
You can configure multiple SWAN concentrators to use the same port on a LAN
adapter if you connect the concentrators using an Ethernet hub or managed switch.
If you plan to use an Ethernet hub, note these configuration considerations:
•
A maximum of 50 SWAN concentrators can be configured to use a single LAN
adapter port.
•
In general, Ethernet hubs can be cascaded up to a depth of four (that is, up to four
Ethernet hubs can be installed between a SWAN concentrator and a LAN adapter).
•
The SWAN concentrator configuration entities are the same for SWAN and
SWAN 2. The configuration limits of various objects are the same for SWAN,
SWAN 2, or a mix of the two. The configuration entity and the maximum number of
objects for each entity supported is shown in Table 2-8 on page 2-14.
