Step 3: Associating IP Addresses With MAC
Addresses
Record the names of the TCP/IP processes and the IP addresses associated with the
SUBNETs on the lines provided on the SWAN Concentrator Configuration-Planning
Forms on page 4-11.
Step 3: Associating IP Addresses With MAC Addresses
Each communications line interface processor (CLIP) on a SWAN concentrator has
two MAC addresses for a total of six MAC addresses on each SWAN concentrator or
12 MAC addresses on each SWAN 2 concentrator. One MAC address is associated
with Ethernet path A and one MAC address is associated with Ethernet path B. MAC
addresses are assigned at manufacturing time.
The nonshaded area of Figure 4-2 shows the CLIPs (1, 2 and 3), Paths (A and B), and
MAC addresses located on the rear panel of a SWAN concentrator.
