Upgrading to a SWAN 2
Concentrator
This section describes considerations when upgrading to a SWAN 2 concentrator. It is
intended for system managers who are planning to include a SWAN 2 concentrator in
their existing configuration.
WAN Subsystem Configuration Changes
Starting with the G06.15 RVU and later RVUs, you can add a SWAN 2 concentrator to
your existing WAN subsystem configuration. The SWAN 2 concentrator:
Provides the same WAN functionality for each supported protocol as a SWAN
concentrator and coexists in a subnet with a SWAN concentrator.
Supports NonStop software products.
Supports the same I/O processes (IOPs) as the SWAN concentrator. For best
results, make sure you install the most recent unrestricted SPRs.
Uses different versions of the data link control (DLC) tasks depending on the
SWAN concentrator type (see Table 6-5 on page 6-47 and Table 6-6 on
page 6-48).
The G06.15 or later RVUs of these products support the SWAN 2 concentrator:
OSM
TSM
WAN Wizard Pro
SWAN Tools
For more information on supported protocol information, see the G06.nn Software
Installation and Upgrade Guide or the H06.nn Software Installation and Upgrade
Guide.
SWAN and SWAN 2 Concentrator File Conventions
Support for the SWAN 2 concentrator is provided as a separate file in the same
product version. The SWAN concentrator file convention is CnnnnP00. The SWAN 2
concentrator file convention is CnnnnQ00. For example, T7953G01 SWAN
FIRMWARE now contains two separate firmware files: C7953P00 (SWAN) and
C7953Q00 (SWAN 2).
Note. Throughout this manual when a distinction between a SWAN concentrator (T3880) and
a SWAN 2 concentrator (T3881) is not required, SWAN concentrator is used as a collective
term.
