Figure 2-2 shows how the SWAN concentrator connects to the Ethernet ports on the
NonStop S-series server. A SWAN concentrator can also connect to the Ethernet ports
on a NonStop S-series I/O enclosure that connects to an Integrity NonStop NS-series
server, as long as the S-series I/O enclosure has IOMF 2 components installed.
The Ethernet clouds shown in Figure 2-2 represent network devices, such as Ethernet
switches or hubs, that transport frames between the SWAN concentrator and the
NonStop S-series server. Network devices can include non-Ethernet LANs, such as
token-ring LANs. The WAN subsystem currently supports private or local Ethernet
segments only.
