Protocols and Line Speeds
Protocols and Line Speeds
A SWAN 2 concentrator can support various line speeds based on the protocol used.
With one exception, these line speeds are comparable to that of older controllers on
the NonStop K-series servers. The maximum line speeds for the protocols supported
by the SWAN 2 concentrator are described in Table 2-13.
Connecting Multiple SWAN 2 Concentrators
For information about connecting multiple concentrators to a switch or hub, see the
SWAN 2 Concentrator Installation and Support Guide.
For information about using a router, see Connecting the SWAN Concentrator Through
Ethernet Routers on page 4-6.
The SWAN 2 concentrator provides a 30 second ride-through (with a battery) should
the AC power fail, but the router must also have a power backup feature.
SWAN 2 Concentrator Configurations
The number of SWAN 2 concentrators that can be configured depends on the number
of configuration entities specific to your configuration and whether you are using one or
two lines on a CLIP.
If you use two lines on each CLIP, you can configure a maximum of 300 SWAN 2
concentrators. If you use only one line on each CLIP, you can configure a maximum of
600 SWAN 2 concentrators.
Table 2-13. Protocols and Maximum Lines Speeds
Protocol Maximum Line Speed Lines Configured
AM3270 19.2 Kbps 2 per CLIP
ATP6100 19.2 Kbps 2 per CLIP
CP6100 with any byte-
synchronous DLC 19.2 Kbps 2 per CLIP
CP6100 with WANADCCP
64 Kbps (RS-449,V.35)
64 Kbps (X.21) 2 per CLIP
Expand 256 Kbps 2 per CLIP
Envoy 19.2 Kbps 2 per CLIP
EnvoyACP/XF 256 Kbps 12 (2 per CLIP, all 6 CLIPs)
SNAX 256 Kbps 2 per CLIP
TR3271 19.2 Kbps 2 per CLIP
X25AM 256 Kbps 12 (2 per CLIP, all 6 CLIPs)
The line speeds above apply for all electrical interfaces, except RS-232 which does not support line speeds
above 19.2 Kbps.
Expand does not work with the X.21 interface.
