This figure shows the 12 WAN ports on the WAN BICs on the back panel of the
SWAN 2 concentrator. Each WAN port has a 50-pin connector, which can support the
RS-232, RS-449, X.21, and V.35 electrical interfaces, although this connector does not
physically match any of the connectors used for these interfaces.
HP provides four types of interface converter cables to convert the 50-pin connector to
a connector that matches your interface (For more information, see Supported
Electrical and Physical Interfaces on page 2-18). Each interface converter cable type
supports, both electrically and physically, one of the supported electrical interfaces.
Four sense pins in the 50-pin connector are wired to indicate which type of interface
converter cable is attached, enabling the SWAN 2 concentrator to know which
electrical interface is connected.
The interface converter cables of the SWAN 2 concentrator (T3881) are identical to the
interface converter cables of the earlier SWAN concentrator (T3880). For migration
purposes, you can disconnect the interface converter cables from a
SWAN concentrator (T3880) and connect them to a SWAN 2 concentrator (T3881).
