2.8 NEIGHBORHOODS &RESIDENTS SETUP/CONFIGURATION (Central
Router)
2.8.1 OVERVIEW
Web ViewPoint Central Router (WCR) is a connectivity subsystem that allows a user to connect to any hp NonStop
Server with Web ViewPoint installed and under management from a Web ViewPoint Window active on any other
NonStop Server.
Following are terms presented with the Central Router:
 Web ViewPoint Resident: A NonStop Server (whether isolated or part of an Expand network) or Resident with
an installed Web ViewPoint (V5 AAH & after).
 Web ViewPoint Neighborhood: An Expand network of NonStop servers with two or more servers or residents
with an installed Web ViewPoint (V5 AAH & after).
 Automated Synchronization: The ability of Web ViewPoint installations to maintain a distributed but
synchronized library of IP and port addresses for all Web ViewPoint installations on the Expand network.
 Neighborhood Inquiry: The ability of a Web ViewPoint session to inquire about another Resident of the same
Neighborhood (any other resident of the same Expand network).
Note that use of the new terms, “Resident,” and “Neighborhood,” as opposed to “Node” and “Expand,”
respectively, are to signify the environment as it applies to Nodes where Web ViewPoint is installed. Features
described here apply only to Web ViewPoint Residents and Neighborhoods.
Web ViewPoint Neighborhood
A Web ViewPoint Neighborhood can be considered to be a collection of Web ViewPoint Residents that are on the
same network. The following is assumed to be true of a Neighborhood:
1. There cannot be two Residents belonging to the same System on the same Neighborhood.
e.g. \SYSA $A.B 1.1.1.1: 2500 2501
\SYSA $C.D 1.1.1.3: 2500 2501
The above Neighborhood cannot exist since it has two Residents from the same system.
2. A given Resident can belong only to one Neighborhood.
e.g. Neighborhood 1:
\SYSA $A.B 1.1.1.1: 2500 2501
\SYSB $A.B 1.1.1.2: 2500 2501
Neighborhood 2:
\SYSA $A.B 1.1.1.1: 2500 2501
\SYSC $A.B 1.1.1.3: 2500 2501
Neighborhoods 1 and 2 both have the same Resident of System A which is not permitted.
