CIIN. A command file in the SYSnn subvolume that is read and executed by the startup HP 
Tandem Advanced Command Language (TACL) process after system load if the CIIN 
file is specified in the CONFTEXT file and enabled in the Compaq TSM client software.
Guardian. An environment available for interactive or programmatic use with the HP 
NonStop™ Kernel operating system. Processes that run in the Guardian environment 
usually use the Guardian system procedure calls as their application program 
interface; interactive users of the Guardian environment usually use the HP Tandem 
Advanced Command Language (TACL) or another HP product’s command interpreter. 
Contrast with Open System Services (OSS). 
generic process.  Generic processes can be created by the operating system or by a user. 
Examples of generic processes created by a user are an HP program, a third-party 
programs, or a user-written program that you configure to be controlled by the 
operating system.
Open System Services (OSS). An open system environment available for interactive or 
programmatic use with the HP NonStop™ Kernel operating system. Processes that 
run in the OSS environment usually use the OSS application program interface; 
interactive users of the OSS environment usually use the OSS shell for their command 
interpreter. Synonymous with “Open System Services (OSS) environment.” Contrast 
with Guardian. 
Parallel Library TCP/IP (PTCPIP).  Parallel Library TCP/IP is an HP product that provides 
increased performance and scalability. Parallel Library TCP/IP coexists with NonStop 
TCP/IP on NonStop S-series servers.
pax. Pax is a public domain archiving utility that reads and writes tar and cpio formats
SCF.  Subsystem Control Facility.
SPI.  Subsystem Programmatic Interface.
SQL/MP.  HP NonStop™ SQL/MP (SQL/MP) database.
SQL/MX.  HP NonStop™ SQL/MX (SQL/MX) database.
TACL.  HP Tandem Advanced Command Language.
WLSNonStopTxHelper.  The startup class that has to be configured for every server in the 
domain. 
XA Resource Manager.  The XA Resource Manager (XARM) for the NonStop server is a 
software component written in C and Java that implements the Java XA resource 
interface. 
XA resource objects.  Objects that implement the XA resource interface.
