many people are working on the same report, or it may be more appropriate to have a
separate Rules and Policies Database for some users.
Note: Always keep in mind when setting up XSW remote locations, whether a user is
connecting or the Service Process is connecting, that it is essential that Remote
users have Read and Write access to the Database or you will generate access
problems. Refer to your PC’s Help and Support Guide to enable proper
configuration.
Moving or Attaching to Databases
When you move or attach to a set of databases, you are pointing your GUI to a set of
databases that become your “current working environment”. Any changes, new
collections or new data affects this environment. If you have a Service Process
running, this is the environment that is used by the Service Process and the Loader
when loading and updating data.
You can move either database to a new location by clicking Move. Databases can be
placed on any location that is accessible. Often the databases are moved to a location
that can be shared by multiple PC users.
If a database has already been placed on a shared location, you can attach to an
existing database by clicking Attach.
In either case, browse to the new location for the database and select it. If this is a
move, start the move. This may take five minutes or more if you have a large database
to copy. If you are attaching to an existing database in a new location, the attach
operation will be quick. The registry keys will be updated with the new locations.
Reverting to an Archived Set of Databases
If you have the All Databases archiving function set in user’s preferences (item 13 on
page 47
), you can revert to one of the saved environments from this screen. Reverting
to a saved environment only makes the data available for queries and reports. It is not
considered your “current working environment.”
Select Database Configurations from the Tools menu and use the Database
Locations tab. A list of archived databases will show in the drop-down list. Click
Revert to revert the selected database.
