About Storage Provisioner

HP OpenView Storage Provisioner enables storage providers

and consumers to manage storage utilities, customize service

levels, and access storage requirements. Storage Provisioner

resides on the Storage Management Appliance (SMA). It

provides provisioning for storage requirements with the HP

StorageWorks HSG-based and HSV-based controllers. Using

Storage Provisioner, you can:

■ Manage storage systems, storage utilities, service levels,

and customer accounts.

■ Discover and manage storage systems.

■ Create, modify, and delete customers, groups, utilities, and

service levels.

■ Create, modify, and delete hosts, paths, and volumes.

■ View storage history and current usage.

■ Export and print provisioning information.

■ Backup and restore configuration data.

Element Manager Note

The HSG Element Manager has recently been renamed to

Command View HSG. This document uses the terms HSG

Element Manager and Command View HSG interchangeably.

Pre-Installation Requirements

Before installing Storage Provisioner, you should confirm that

the system and software requirements have been met. For detail

SAN configuration recommendations, refer to the SAN Design

Reference Guide at:

System Requirements

■ HP StorageWorks HSG-based Controllers using ACS V8.6

or ACS V8.7 firmware, including:

— HP StorageWorks MA/RA8000

— HP StorageWorks EMA/ESA12000

— HP StorageWorks EMA16000

■ HP StorageWorks HSV-based Controllers using VCS V2.0

or V3.0 firmware.

— HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA)

■ HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance

Supported Software Versions

■ HP OpenView Management Appliance Software Update

version 2.0 (SP1a).

■ HP Command View HSG V1.0e (for HSG controllers)

(Recently renamed from HSG Element Manager).

■ HP Command View EVA V3.0 (for HSV Controllers)

■ Supported browsers for the workstation you will use to

Supported Browser and Host OS Matrix ■ The following table lists the Host operating systems and browsers that are supported on Storage Provisioner V1.1. 12. Browse to the SANworks Nexus database folders shown below and delete all files in those folders that have a .db extension. Note: If using Terminal Services, use the Control Panel to remove the software. Caution: Do not delete the backup folder or the database folder. 6. From the Storage Management Appliance desktop, choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. 10. Click Next. 4. Select Install Software. A message indicates the progress of the download. When the installation program has unpacked the file, it displays the program that was contained in the SWP file. This should be the Storage Provisioner. 5. After the Installation Wizard displays, click Next. 11. Confirm the Storage Provisioner is displayed in the “Select from the list” field, then click Next. A message indicates that the installation is in progress.

Adding a Local Host The HSG Element Manager Agent Options page displays, where you can define your agent options, local host, and host name. Complete the following steps if your SAN has HSG array controllers. Note: This description uses HSG Element Manager. On your system you may need to substitute HSG Element Manager for the new name, Command View HSG. 1. Using a web browser, access the SMA and log in. The SMA home page displays. 2.

Refreshing Storage Systems Starting Storage Provisioner Because the structure of the database is different in version 1.1 than version 1.0, you were instructed to deleted the SANworks Nexus database files before installing version 1.1. Therefore you must refresh (rediscover) each storage system to create a new database for the new installation.

Start your browser from the SMA console. The SMA Home page displays. Note: If prompted, accept the download of the Java applet. 2. Choose Tools. 3. In the address box of your browser change the localhost setting to the TCP/IP address of the SMA. For example, if the TCP/IP address of your SMA is 100.10.1.
