HP BladeSystem Deployment Guide for Solutions with 6Gb SAS BL Switches and External SAS Storage Enclosures

MDS600 and D6000 dual domain, standard cabling
This example illustrates standard cabling for a high-availability configuration for a dual domain
configuration. In this configuration, note the following:
Two cables from an MDS600 or D6000 storage drawer to the switch provide dual-domain
connectivity:
One cable connects to the primary I/O module, SAS port 1.
One cable connects to the secondary I/O module, SAS port 1.
For consistency across all deployments, even though SAS port 1 and SAS port 2 are functionally
equivalent, HP recommends using I/O module SAS port 1.
NOTE: Restrictions exist, depending on the controller, storage enclosure, and drive model. For
more information, see “External SAS device, controller, drive, and cabling support matrices
(page 77)
Devices and quantities
MDS600/D6000 storage enclosures: 1
I/O modules: 4
BladeSystem c7000 enclosures: 1
6Gb SAS BL Switches: 2
Server blade types: half-height and full-height
Connection details
Switch in interconnect bay 5:
Port 1: to storage drawer 2, primary
I/O module, port 1
Port 5: to storage drawer 1, primary
I/O module, port 1
Switch in interconnect bay 6:
Port 1: to storage drawer 2, secondary
I/O module, port 1
Port 5: to storage drawer 1, secondary
I/O module, port 1
Notes
If sufficient ports on the switch are
available, HP recommends connecting an
additional cable from the switch to the I/O
modules, for additional performance. For
an example, see “MDS600 and D6000
