Setting up the storage system
1. Install the storage system into a rack, if necessary.
HP recommends using the provided rail kit for
installing the storage system in a rack.
CAUTION: Due to the weight of the storage
system, use two people to lift it into a rack.
2. Connect a keyboard and monitor (KVM) or connect
to the iLO Integrated Management Console on the
storage system. You will use this connection to
assign a host name and IP address to the storage
system.
NOTE: If neither of these connection options
is available, you can connect a PC or laptop
to the storage system using a null modem
cable. On the PC or laptop, open a session
with a terminal emulation program and use
the settings 19200 and 8-N-1.
3. Ensure that all the drives are seated and latched.
4. Connect the power cord(s) to the storage system
and plug in the power source(s).
5. Power on the storage system.
Configuring the network interface
Prerequisites
Before configuring the network settings on individual
storage systems, have the following information
available:
Host names
IP addresses, subnet mask and gateway
1. To log in to the configuration interface, type start,
and then press Enter. Press Enter again to log in.
Use the Tab key to select the fields and menu
options in the configuration interface.
2. Press Tab to select Network TCP/IP settings and
press Enter.
3. Press Tab to select the network interface that you
want to configure (eth0, port1, or seth0) and press
Enter.
4. To change the host name, press Backspace in the
Hostname box to delete the default name and then
enter the appropriate name.
5. Select Use the following IP address and then enter
details for the IP address, subnet mask, and
gateway. Select OK when finished.
NOTE: Manually assign IP addresses to the
storage systems. Using DHCP to obtain an IP
address is not recommended unless you are
using reserved addresses.
6. (Optional) Ping the IP address of the storage system
from another host on the network to verify that it is
operating correctly.
7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 for each storage system.
Setting up the Virtual Storage Appliance
(VSA)
Insert the HP StoreVirtual VSA and Failover Manager
DVD in the DVD drive. The installer launches
automatically.
NOTE: If the installer does not launch
automatically, navigate to the DVD drive to locate
the executable. Double-click the executable to
launch it.
Installing the HP StoreVirtual VSA for VMware
vSphere
NOTE: Before you begin, ensure that you have
the following information available:
IP addresses for the VSA
Path to install the VSA
Path and size for the physical and virtual
disks for the VSA
Ensure that the disk speed and capacity on each
VSA is the same.
1. Select Install VSA for ESX.
The installation wizard guides you through
configuring the virtual machine on the network,
configuring virtual or physical hard drives, and
powering on the VSA.
2. Repeat the wizard for each VSA you want to install.
You may also use the VI client to deploy the VSA
OVF. See the HP StoreVirtual Storage VSA
Installation and Configuration Guide for instructions
about installing the VSA using OVF files.
3. After installation is complete, continue with “Setting
up the SAN” (page 1).
Installing the HP StoreVirtual VSA for Microsoft
Hyper-V
1. Select Install VSA for Hyper-V.
The installation wizard guides you through
configuring the virtual machine on the network,
configuring virtual or physical hard drives, and
powering on the VSA.
2. Repeat the wizard for each VSA you want to install.
3. After installation is complete, continue with “Setting
up the SAN” (page 1).
Setting up the SAN
Installing the Centralized Management Console
(CMC)
Install the CMC on the computer that you will use to
manage the SAN. You need administrative privileges
to install the CMC.
NOTE: Do not install the CMC on the SAN. The
CMC must be on the same IP network as the SAN,
but it should not be installed on any of the storage
systems' volumes.
Using the installation wizard (Windows)
1. Insert the HP StoreVirtual Management Software
DVD in the DVD drive. The installer launches
automatically.
NOTE: If the installer does not launch
automatically, navigate to the DVD drive to
locate the executable. Double-click the
executable to launch it.
2. Click Centralized Management Console (CMC).
3. Click Install CMC.
NOTE: If you select the Complete option,
the SNMP and HP LeftHand Networks MIBs
will also be installed.
4. Continue through the installation wizard, following
the instructions on each window.
Mount the HP StoreVirtual Management Software DVD
on the server (Linux)
Navigate to the Linux CMC directory:
#cd /mnt/cdrom
#cd 8_1_management_software
#cd GUI
#cd Linux
#cd Disk1
