Assigning BC Z volumes to volumes reserved for Auto LUN workflow
Use the following workflow to assign BC Z volumes to volumes reserved for Auto LUN:
1. If you are assigning BC Z volumes other than the ones you can assign to volumes reserved
for Auto LUN, delete the BC Z pair. Otherwise, skip this step.
2. Complete one of the following:
Assign the BC Z volumes to a volume reserved for Auto LUN.
Migrate the volumes.
3. If you assigned the BC Z volumes to a volume reserved for Auto LUN, complete the following:
a. Release the pair volumes from the volume reserved for Auto LUN.
b. Perform BC Z pair tasks.
Sharing volumes and Volume Retention access attributes
You can create BC Z pairs using volumes for which you set access attributes using Volume Retention
(Vol Ret Z).
Workflow for setting up to use volumes in Business Copy Z pairs
Use the following workflow to set up to use volumes in BC Z pairs for which you set access attributes
using Vol Ret Z:
1. Use Vol Ret Z to set the volume’s access attributes.
For more information about the access attributes you can set, see “Business Copy Z volume
access attribute setting using Volume Retention” (page 29).
2. Perform BC Z pair and reserve attribute change tasks using the volumes.
For more information about the tasks that you can perform, see “BC Z pair tasks and reserve
attribute change tasks” (page 29).
Business Copy Z volume access attribute setting using Volume Retention
Use Vol Ret Z to set the BC Z reserve and 3390-A P-VOL and S-VOL access attributes.
For BC Z reserve volumes, you set the following access attributes:
Read/Write
Read Only
Protect
For 3390-A P-VOL or S-VOLs, you set the Read/Write access attribute.
CAUTION: To prevent the copy processing or pair suspension from ending abnormally, do not
set the Read Only or Protect attribute.
BC Z pair tasks and reserve attribute change tasks
The access attribute setting determines which BC Z pair tasks and reserve attribute change tasks
you can perform.
