HP XP7 Continuous Access Journal for Mainframe Systems User Guide (TK911-96001)

Table 1 General system requirements (continued)
RequirementItem
Groups of remote paths, which allows you to configure or change the configuration
of multiple paths at the same time.
Path group
A maximum of eight remote paths can be registered in a path group
A maximum of 64 path groups can be set in a storage system.
The range of values for the path group ID is 0-255.
For a mirror, the same path group ID must be used to connect the primary
storage system to the secondary system as is used to connect the systems in the
reverse direction.
The path group is specified during the add pair operation. It cannot be changed
by resynchronization or the swap operation.
Path groups can be created and specified using RAID Manager. See
configuration setting commands in HP XP7 RAID Manager User Guide and
sample configuration definition files in HP XP7 RAID Manager Installation and
Configuration User Guide.
It is recommended that you specify different paths and path groups for Cnt Ac-S
Z and Cnt Ac-J Z secondary systems when using CU Free.
Pair volumes
A P-VOL may be copied to one S-VOL.
The P-VOL and S-VOL must be equal in size.
The P-VOL and S-VOL must be of same emulation type.
Supported emulation types for mainframe system pair volumes:
3390-1,-2,-3,-9,-L,-M,-A
6588-1,-3,-9,-L
The maximum size of the P-VOL and S-VOL is 262,688 cylinders.
When Cnt Ac-S Z is cascaded with Cnt Ac-J Z, a data volume may be copied
to multiple data centers.
Journals and journal volumes
Maximum number of journals supported per storage system: 256 (0 to 255)
Recommended number of journals per storage system: Up to 16 per storage
system
Maximum number of journal volumes: 2.
If two are registered, only one is used (the first one registered). The second is
not used unless needed for maintenance, or to replace the first one.
Maximum journal volume size: 60TB
Minimum journal volume size: 1.55TB
Maximum number of data volumes per journal: 8,192
Emulation types for journal volumes: OPEN-V. Journal volumes must be THP
V-VOLs.
For more information, see “Planning journal volumes ” (page 26).
Virtual LVI:Supported volume types
Can be used for data and journal volumes.
S-VOL capacity must equal P-VOL capacity.
Cache Residency:
Data volume: yes
Journal volume: no
Limited per XP7 system. See “Maximum number of pairs allowed ” (page 28).Maximum number of pairs
