HP XP7 Continuous Access Journal for Mainframe Systems User Guide (TK911-96001)

9 Maintaining the Cnt Ac-J Z system
Some maintenance tasks are a response to behavior discovered during system monitoring. However,
you can also change certain settings to keep the system in tune with your changing requirements.
This chapter provides information and instructions for maintaining a Continuous Access Journal Z
system.
Pair maintenance
You must have Storage Administrator (Remote Copy) role to perform Continuous Access Journal Z
maintenance operations.
Maintaining pairs consists of the following:
“Changing number of copies allowed per initial copy operation” (page 90)
“Changing pair options ” (page 90)
“Forcibly deleting pairs” (page 91)
Changing number of copies allowed per initial copy operation
You can change the number of volumes that can be copied during an initial copy operation.
Procedure 23 To change the number of copies allowed during an initial copy
1. In the Storage System tree, click Replication.
2. From the Actions menu, click Remote Replication > Edit Remote Replica Options.
3. In the Edit Remote Replica Options window, for Copy Type, select Cnt Ac-J/Cnt Ac-J Z.
4. For Maximum Initial Copy Activities, you can change the maximum number of volumes in the
accessed storage system that can be copied during an initial copy. You can specify from 1
to 128 volumes. The default is 64.
Performance of the primary system depends on on this setting and the amount of I/O
activity. You can limit the impact on performance by using the default.
When you create or resychronize a greater number of pairs than you specify in Maximum
Initial Copy Activities, the system processes the specified maximum number, and starts
additional pairs after one of the specified number is synchronized.
For example, if you specify 70 for Maximum Initial Copy Activities and then create 75
pairs, the system starts the first 70 pairs but does not start the 71st pair until one of the
pairs is synchronized.
5. Click Finish.
6. In the Confirm window, review the settings and enter a task name in the Task Name box.
7. Click Apply to save your settings to the system.
Changing pair options
You can change the following pair options:
Whether to copy cache-fast-write data to the S-VOL
The system’s response if a failure occurs in the pair
Prerequisite information
You can change this option only for pairs in Duplex, Suspend, Hold, Holding, or Hlde status.
Procedure 24 To change pair options
1. In the Storage Systems tree, click Replication > Remote Replication.
2. Select the Cnt Ac-J Pairs tab, and then select the pair whos options are to be changed.
