System cooling
HVAC system
HVAC systems are designed for conditioning the air in a portable, containerized computer room. The
systems are installed directly on top of the HP POD 240a for conditioning the air inside. HVAC systems are
available with air conditioners mounted on a structural steel cradle. The cradle serves as a lifting platform
and as an interface to the container roof. Each DX unit is equipped with louvered dampers for controlling the
airflow through the unit.
The HVAC/DX system has the following specifications:
• Air conditioners—Six 180,000 Btu/hr air conditioners
• Cradles with DX units—Four cradles, each holding six HVAC/ DX units, for a total of 24 HVAC/ DX
units
• Dampers—Work together to utilize outside air whenever possible and mix it with conditioned air, as
needed, to control the environment inside the POD
DX system operation
• DX units operate in almost all environments in the US and can create and maintain the most rigidly
controlled server environment.
• With compressor-based cooling, the units have the ability to operate in a recirculation condition,
regardless of outdoor conditions, to keep IT inlet temperatures in optimal ranges.
• DX units also have the ability to go into economizer mode and use filtered outdoor air when external
conditions are right for energy efficiency.
• The system requires energy input when cooling is required, which can increase PUE numbers.
• Exact energy efficiency is dependent on the customer-chosen operating envelope and the POD location.
Fire suppression
The fire suppression system supplied as a component of the HP POD 240a is "Manufacturer Designed" by
Tyco Fire Suppression and Building Products specifically for this HP product, in compliance with all national
standards.
The standard suppression system includes a Novec 1230 clean agent system, which can be replaced with a
Pre-Action Water suppression system, if required by local or regional fire codes, or specifically requested by
a customer.
HP does not certify that the fire suppression system installed in the HP POD 240a meets all local and
jurisdiction requirements. The customer is responsible for the following actions relating to the fire suppression
system:
