The following might occur at the switch startup:
1. The switch starts up with the main boot file.
2. The main boot file is faulty and the switch starts up with the backup boot file.
3. Both the main and backup boot files are faulty and the switch picks a random boot file and starts
up with it.
4. If the switch still cannot start up with the random boot file, it decides that there is no valid boot file
and stops picking any boot file.
Handling Upgrade Failures
If an upgrade failure occurs, the switch operates using the original version.
Follow these steps to handle upgrade failure:
1. Check the connection of the physical ports. Reconnect ports that are not properly connected and
download the boot files again.
2. Check the HyperTerminal output for errors and typos. Correct errors and t ypos and download the
boot file again. The errors can be:
You have selected a baud rate of another value rather than 9600 bps to download the .app file
from the boot menu, but did not set to the corresponding baud rate on HyperTerminal.
You typed an incorrect IP address of the TFTP server or switch, filename, or TFTP work directory.
You typed an incorrect IP address of the FTP server or switch, filename, FTP username, or password.
3. Check the version of boot files or Boot ROM. For the compatibility between the Comware version
and the Boot ROM version, see the hardware and software compatibility matrix in Release Notes.
4. If neither of the above solves the problem, contact your local agent for help.
Handling Password Loss
Boot ROM password loss
If the Boot ROM password of the switch is lost, contact your local agent.
Super password loss
The super password enables you to switch among four super levels. If the super password is lost, you
cannot perform higher level operations. In this case, you can delete the lost super password.
Follow these steps to delete the lost super password from a configuration file:
Step1 Type Ctrl+P to enter the super password menu.
Are you sure you want to delete the password? Yes or No (Y/N)y
Step2 Answer Y to the question. The following output appears:
