PIM Configuration
7-10
Then, the last hop router sends a prune message with the RP bit to the RP hop by hop.
When the RP receives the message, it will reversely forward the prune message to the
multicast source. Thus, the multicast data stream is switched from the RPT to the SPT.
After the RPT-to-SPT switchover, the multicast data will be sent from the multicast
source S to the receiver directly. Through the RPT-to-SPT switchover, the PIM-SM can
establish an SPT in a more economical way than PIM-DM.
The related threshold value is not set on S7500 series Ethernet switches. When the
switch receives multicast data forwarded over the RPT, it will update the incoming
interface automatically and sends a prune message to the RP.
7.2 Common PIM Configuration
Complete the following tasks to configure PIM:
Task Remarks
Enabling PIM-DM (PIM-SM) on the Interface Required
Configuring the Interval of Sending Hello Messages Optional
Configuring PIM Neighbors Optional
Clearing PIM Relevant Entries Optional
7.2.1 Enabling PIM-DM (PIM-SM) on the Interface
Follow these steps to enable PIM-DM (PIM-SM) on the interface:
To do... Use the command... Remarks
Enter system view system-view

7.2.2 Configuring the Interval of Sending Hello Messages
PIM-DM must be enabled on each interface. After the configuration, PIM-DM will send
PIM Hello messages periodically and process protocol messages that the PIM
neighbors send.
