Configuring the System 4-1
Chapter 4: Configuring the System
Making the Connections Required for System Configuration
The AdvanceStack Hub-12TX/Hub-12TXM provides a menu-
driven VT-100 console interface. This can be accessed by
making a connection to the Console Port on the front of the hub
(using a terminal or a computer running a terminal emulation
program). Moreover, when configuring the Hub-12TXM, you
can Telnet into the hub from any computer attached to the
network, or call into the hub from a remote computer using a
modem connection.
Note: The HP Hub-12TXM controls the configuration for the entire
stack of hubs it is in.
The Hub-12TXM model also provides an on-board
management agent based on Simple Network Management
Protocol (SNMP). This agent allows you to discover the hub
(and connected stack) from any PC attached to the network
with HP AdvanceStack Assistant. This software provides
advanced management functions using a straight-forward
graphical user interface.
This chapter describes how to perform basic configuration, and
manage the overall stack, via:
• Direct connection - making a local connection via the hub’s
Console Port to the menu-driven VT-100 console interface.
• Network connection - Ability to Telnet over the network to
the menu-driven VT-100 console interface.
• Remote connection - making a modem connection via the
hub’s Console Port to the menu-driven VT-100 console
interface.
It also describes how to access the SNMP agent over a network
using HP AdvanceStack Assistant.
