Replacing or Removing a Module
Replacing or Removing a Module
It is highly recommended that the HP Extended Services zl Module be shutdown
before replacing or removing it. You can shut down the module with the following
HP zl switch CLI command:
hostzlswitch# services <slot-id> shutdown
For example:
hostzlswitch# services c shutdown
Shutting down the Extended Services zl Module ensures that the System Platform is
shut down properly and does not experience a power failure when the module is
removed.
It is possible to “hot-swap” one module for another of the same type; that is, replace
one module with another while the HP zl switch is still powered on, without
interrupting the operation of the rest of the switch ports. If the modules are not the
same type, the switch will need to be rebooted and may need to be reconfigured.
Caution A 5-second delay is mandatory between removing a module, and either re-installing
it, or replacing it with another.
For proper cooling and reduction of electromagnetic emissions, ensure that a slot
cover is installed on any unused slot. In an operational chassis, an unused slot should
be covered if it is not used for more than 2 minutes.
To replace one module with another, or to remove a module without replacing it, use
the following procedure:
1. Unscrew the retaining screws enough to disconnect them from the threaded holes
in the switch.
2. Using the extractor handles, pull the module out from the slot.
3. Do one of the following:
If installing another module of the same type, go to “Installation Steps” on
page 2-10 and begin with step 2. A switch reset is not required. The current
configuration in that slot will apply to the new module.
If another module will not be installed in the slot (that is, the slot will be left
empty), re-install the cover plate over the slot opening.
