HP Advanced Services zl Module with Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 R2 Planning and Design Guide
2-6
Solution 1: WAN Optimization and Survivability
Solution Implementation
Software Version
The HP zl switch in which you install the modules that support this solution
requires software version K.14.65, K.15.03, or greater. Version K.15.03 or
greater is recommended because it supports seamless failover from an active
to a standby management module on E8200 zl Series switches.
VLANs
In this example implementation, an HP E5406 zl switch provides IP routing
for the LAN, which consists of four VLANs, VLAN 5 through 8. The module
running the Windows Server 2008 R2, which is installed in slot C, is placed in
VLAN 5. The switch connects to a WAN router on VLAN 2, and the switch’s
default route is through this router.
Zones
The switch administrator must configure zones on the HP zl switch to inter-
cept traffic for the Riverbed zl module, which is installed in slots D and F.
Table 2-1 displays the zones for this example solution. The NORMAL zone is
for the Riverbed zl module’s management port, which is its internal port 2.
Table 2-1. Example Zones
The switch intercepts certain traffic and sends it to the Riverbed zl module’s
internal port 1. In this solution, the switch intercepts the traffic between these
zones:
LAN to WAN and WAN to LAN
LAN to NORMAL
WAN to NORMAL and NORMAL to WAN
The switch forwards all other traffic normally.
