Solution 2: Survivable Wireless Networking
Solution Implementation
The components required to implement this solution are:
At the campus, an HP zl switch with these modules:
HP Advanced Services zl Module with Microsoft Windows Server 2008
R2
HP E-MSM765 zl Mobility Controller module
Other interface modules as needed for connectivity
The switch in the example network is an HP E5406 zl switch.
This solution is designed to fit seamlessly into the school system’s existing
network, which, it is assumed, includes:
WAN routers that connect the high school and district office
Switches and routing switches at the high school and district office
Domain controller and other services at the district office
Solution Implementation
The following sections provide some basic guidelines for implementing this
solution as well as references to places where you can find more information.
You may need to adapt these guidelines to fit your particular network infra-
structure.
Predeployment Steps
By default, the server that runs on the module requests a DHCP address on its
internal interface 2. Network administrators can set the IP addresses manually
instead, or the DHCP server administrator can create a fixed DHCP reserva-
tion for the server. Generally, the first option is preferred. In this example, the
server has a static IP address at 10.29.4.30/24.
However, if you select the latter option (for the initial setup if nothing else),
the server administrator should create the reservation in advance. The admin-
istrator needs to know the MAC address on the modules internal interface
2. This MAC address is one higher than the address listed on the label on
module’s underside.
