Branch Office Solutions with the Advanced
Services zl Module with Microsoft Windows
Server 2008 R2
Overview
The HP Advanced Services zl Module with Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008
R2 (J9666A) is a zl switch module with integrated Windows Server 2008 R2,
Standard Edition, software. When you install the module in an HP E5400 zl or
E8200 zl Series switch, the module automatically boots to the prelicensed
Windows Server 2008 R2 OS.
This module provides local Windows services for a branch, making those
services more responsive and resilient than they would be if they were
centralized at the data center. With services hosted on-site, branch users
experience speedier responses when accessing data and applications. In
addition, limited WAN bandwidth is reserved for services that do need to be
centralized. Finally, the localized services continue to function even if the
WAN link to the data center fails, ensuring that your employees can continue
to complete necessary tasks all of the time.
The module is simple to deploy, making it an ideal solution for enterprises
with many branches. For example, relatively inexperienced IT staff can install
the module and quickly download a standard branch server image. Or server
administrators can configure the module at the headquarters and ship the
preconfigured module to be installed wherever the company requires.
The HP Advanced Services zl Module with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
is easily combined with various applications and other HP AllianceOne prod-
ucts to create a wide array of survivable branch solutions.
