Hardware Installation
Overview
The HP Advanced Services zl Module with VMware
®
vSphere
™
Platform
(J9748A) has an ESXi host pre-installed at the factory, and is ready for module
installation in an HP E5400 zl or E8200 zl Series switch.
The module automatically boots the ESXi host. You access the ESXi direct
console user interface (DCUI) through the switch CLI. HP recommends that
you install a vSphere Client, (a link to the installation files can be found by
pointing a web browser to the ESXi management port’s IP address) to manage
the ESXi host and virtual machines (VMs), just as you would with any VMware
ESX/ESXi host running on a server.
The pre-installed ESXi host runs in evaluation mode for up to 60 days. To
enable additional support and services, a Product Activation Code (PAC) is
shipped with the product. This PAC provides:
One year of HP Technical Support on the product
A VMware software license
A one-year VMware software subscription service
HP recommends that you register your PAC immediately. You register with
HP to receive the HP Support service and with VMware to receive the software
license and subscription. For more information, see the license card shipped
with the product or the Installation and Getting Started Guide at
www.hp.com/networking/support.
Important HP zl switch software version K15.05 (or greater) is required. For more
information, see Appendix D in the Installation and Getting Started Guide.
The maximum number of Services zl Modules that can be installed in a zl
switch chassis depends on the switch model. See Table 1-3 on page 1-5 for
details.
Note This document contains the basic information needed to safely install and get
started using the module. It also contains EMC Regulatory Statements (Appen-
dix A) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Statements
(Appendix B). The Installation and Getting Started Guide at
www.hp.com/networking/support provides more details about the initial setup,
licensing, and ongoing module management.
