Background for Planning NIM Policies
Policies
Policies match alerts to actions. NIM provides default policies that are related to the alert types.
To view or modify a default policy, select it in the navigation tree of the Policy Manager window.
For example, Figure 4-9 shows the alerts for the default security policy, ProCurve NBAD
Services.

You can create additional policies to respond to the threats that are detected on your network.
You define a policy by selecting an alert, specifying a source for the alert, selecting an action
as a response to the alert, and specifying the target for the action.
The summation of all the policies you define constitutes the overall security policy for your
network.
Armed with a general understanding of the policy-setting process, you are now ready to begin
the process of designing your Threat Management Solution.
