Step 2: Detect Threats
Subtask: Configure the Initial Settings for Monitor Mode
The initial setup steps for the TMS zl Module in monitor mode are listed below.
■ Set the operating mode to monitor.
■ Specify a management VLAN. (The default is VLAN 1.)
■ Configure a static IP address for the VLAN.
■ Configure a default gateway.
To configure the initial settings on the TMS zl Module in monitor mode, complete the
following steps:
1. Verify the index number assigned to the TMS OS:
Hostswitch# show services
In this installation, index number 2 corresponds to the TMS OS. The index number might
be different if:
• HP ProCurve ONE Services zl Modules are installed in the same switch chassis
• The product running on a Services zl Module booted first
The index numbers are assigned dynamically, according to which product boots first on
the modules in the switch chassis.
2. Access the host switch’s CLI and move to the TMS OS context:
hostswitch# services <slot_ID> 2
Replace <slot_ID> with the letter of the slot in which the module is installed.
Enter 2 to access the TMS OS. (This is the index number that corresponds to that OS.)
3. Enter the configuration context for the module:
hostswitch(tms-module-C)# configure terminal
4. Set the operating mode to monitor:
You will be prompted to confirm that you want to change operating modes and asked if
you want to save the current configuration.
hostswitch(tms-module-C:config)# operating-mode monitor
Changing the operating mode requires a reboot to take effect. Do
you want to continue [y/n]? y
Do you want to save the current configuration [y/n]? y
5. Configure the management VLAN:
hostswitch(tms-module-C:config)# management vlan <VLAN_ID>
Note You might want to set the management VLAN of the TMS zl Module to match the management
VLAN of the switch, if any. The management VLAN, however, should not be the default VLAN:
VLAN 1.
6. Configure a static IP address for the module’s management interface:
hostswitch(tms-module-C:config)# management ip <ip address>
<subnet mask>
