Overview
The HP Survivable Branch Communication zl Module (SBM) powered by
Microsoft Lync
TM
works within a Microsoft® Unified Communications and
Collaboration (UC&C) solution to provide resilient voice services at a branch
office. This chapter introduces you to the components and features of the SBM
and explains how it fits within the Microsoft Lync-based UC&C solution.
Although the chapter does explain some concepts related to the services
provided by the SBM, many Lync-related topics exceed the scope of this guide.
You should refer to Microsoft documentation for the latest information about
Lync.
This chapter also provides information about the SBMs telephony capabilities
when properly configured with Microsoft Lync.
SBM Components
This section describes the SBM’s hardware and software components.
Hardware
The SBM is a combination of HP and Microsoft applications that are hosted
on an HP Extended Services zl Module, illustrated in Figure 1-1. The module
is installed in an HP E5400 zl or E8200 zl Series switch at the branch office.
