Components
This section focuses on the components that provide these services. Figure 1-2
displays the basic architecture.

The solution’s components are defined in a Lync Server topology, which is
divided into sites that consist of LANs (areas connected by high-speed Ether-
net or fiber-optic connections). Within the topology, a site defines the
resources that help to deliver UC&C services to users at those sites. The figure
above illustrates a central site; Lync Server topologies can also include branch
sites, which this guide will discuss when it turns to the SBM’s role in the
architecture.
