Ready the Data Center for an SBM Deployment
Overview
Overview
This chapter explains the tasks that must be performed to ready the data
center for a successful SBM deployment. It will provide enough information
for experienced Windows administrators to create a checklist of what they
need to do. However, detailed guidelines are beyond the scope of this docu-
ment. You should refer to Microsoft documentation for all such purposes.
Do note, however, that this guide includes several example solutions with
step-by-step instructions for completing these and other tasks related to
deploying these solutions.
Table 3-1 displays the tasks and the typical group who completes them (your
domain might be set up differently).
Note You might also need to set up your branch office infrastructure to provide
Quality of Service (QoS), and your WAN link to provide adequate bandwidth.
Chapter 2: “Design Considerations” helps you to plan for these requirements.
Table 3-1. Predeployment Tasks
Role Task
Enterprise Admin or Domain Admin Verify that the domain has the proper groups

deploy the SBM

Monitoring pool (recommended)
Create a DHCP reservation for the SBM (optional)
Create a DNS entry for the SBM (optional)
CS Administrator Add the SBM to the Lync Server topology
Set up voice routing and dial plans for the SBM site
Assign branch users to the SBM pool
Enable Media Bypass for the SBM

Certificate Administrator or person
responsible for obtaining third-party
