Ready the Data Center for an SBM Deployment
Domain Administrator Tasks
Domain Administrator Tasks
This section describes the tasks that a member of the Domain Admins group
must complete to ready the domain for an SBM deployment. These steps must
be completed before the CS Administrator adds the SBM to the Lync Server
topology.
Verify Your Groups
First, ensure that your domain has the CS and RTC groups, which should have
been added to the domain with the deployment of Microsoft Lync Server 2010.
Add the SBM Computer Object to the Domain
Next, you must add the SBM computer account to the domain. Make sure that
RTCUniversalSBATechnicians are allowed to join the SBM to the domain. Also
communicate the SBM’s hostname to the CS Administrator, who will need to
specify the SBM’s fully qualified domain name (FQDN) when adding it to the
Lync Server topology.
Configure the SBM’s Service Principal Name
The SBM must use its FQDN for its service principal name (SPN). Without
this SPN, the CS Administrators cannot properly join the SBM to the Lync
Server topology.
Open an ASDI editor and connect to the default naming context. Navigate to
the SBM in the Computers folder and edit its properties, specifying this value
for servicePrincipalName: HOST/<SBM FQDN>. For example, you might specify
HOST/seattle-sbm.example.hp.com.
Configure the SBM Administrator Account
Set up the account for the person who will perform the initial setup of the
SBM, which can be an existing account or a new one. To give this user the
right to join the SBM to the domain and to manage the device locally, make
the user a member of the RTCUniversalSBATechnicians group.
