Add the Survivable Branch to the Lync
Server Topology
Add the Branch Site and SBM to Lync Topology
You must add the SBM to the existing Lync topology. Verify that the SBM
computer object has been created in AD and its SPN defined. Then complete
these tasks:
1. Use the Lync Server 2010 Topology Builder to define a branch site within
a parent central site.
2. In the Topology Builder, use the New Survivable Branch Appliance Wizard
to add the SBM to the branch site:
a. Specify the SBM’s FQDN for the server FQDN.
b. Specify the SBMs FQDN for the IP/PSTN FQDN
Important You must specify the SBM’s FQDN for the PSTN gateway and not the SBM’s
IP address.
c. You can choose either Transport Control Protocol (TCP) or Transport
Layer Security (TLS) for the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) proto-
col, but TLS is strongly recommended for best security. You can
specify any SIP port, but if you choose a non-default port, you must
tell the person who configures the SBM that you have made this
change; that person can then make the corresponding change on the
SBM.
d. If you want, after you complete the wizard, you can edit the Mediation
Server properties and change the Mediation Server’s listening port.
However, if you do, you must tell the person who configures the SBM
that you have made the change so that that person can make the
corresponding change on the SBM.
3. Publish the updated topology.
For an example of how to complete this step, see “Add the Survivable Branch
to the Lync Server Topology” on page 4-21 in Chapter 4: “Example Solutions.”
