Ready the Data Center for an SBM Deployment
Add the Survivable Branch to the Lync Server Topology
Create Voice Routing Policies and Normalization Rules
for the SBM
You need to create a voice routing policy for the branch site. These policies
specify:
■ Capabilities and features for users’ calls (such as conferencing, call
forwarding, and so forth)
■ Routes that match particular number patterns with particular PSTN gate-
ways
You can create routes that egress PSTN calls through the SBM as well as
through PSTN gateways at other sites. Similarly, you can route calls from the
central site and other branch sites through the SBM. In this way, you can
optimize your system for the lowest-cost and most efficient communications.
For example, you can create a voice routing policy for the site that:
■ Routes local calls through the local SBM
■ Routes calls that are local to another site through that site’s PSTN gateway
■ Routes all other long distance calls through the central site’s PSTN
gateway
■ Provides a lowest-priority backup route that routes all calls through the
SBM in case of a WAN failure (The SBM automatically detects when a
WAN failure prevents it from using the remote PSTN gateways and uses
this route.)
Remember also to establish valid normalization rules for the branch site. You
can use the global dial plan to dictate these rules, or you can create a new plan.
Assign Test Users to the SBM
You need to consider the best time at which to move branch users to the SBM.
The SBM is not yet functional, so it is recommended that you wait to move
active users to its pool. However, for the SBM installer to complete the Setup
Wizard, test users must be assigned to the SBM. The domain administrator
should have already created these accounts. Use the Lync Server Control
Panel to add these users to Lync, activate Enterprise Voice on them, and assign
these users to the SBM.
