Read Me First
for the ProCurve Switch Access Controller xl Module (J8162A)
IMPORTANT
Battery Installation Required
The Access Controller xl Module (J8162A) ships without the clock battery installed. You must insert
the battery before installing the module into the switch. See the following graphic for instructions.
The battery is located in the packaging with the module.

Reseating a Module
If you need to reseat a module while troubleshooting, shut the module down using the
access-controller <slot-id> shutdown command from the 5300xl’s CLI Configuration context or the
“Shutdown Module” push button. Remove the module from the chassis for at least two seconds before
reinserting it. This ensures that the module successfully returns to operation.
Saving the Configuration After Installing or Exchanging a Module
The following cases automatically result in a change to the running-configuration on your switch:
■ If you replace a module with another module of a different type and then reboot the switch
■ If you install a module in a slot that has not previously been used (including when you install
a module and apply power to the switch for the first time)
