Set the Switch Time
Set the Switch Time
To follow best practices, you should ensure that the HP 5400zl or 8200zl switch
is using the correct time. This helps ensure that switch operations can be
performed without error, particularly when the switch is interacting with
other applications and network infrastructure devices. Setting the correct
time also ensures that event logs have the correct time, allowing you to
monitor or troubleshoot problems more easily.
To set the time on the HP 5400zl or 8200zl switch, you can:
■ Synchronize the switch and the domain controller time using SNTP
(recommended for a permanent installation)
■ Set the switch time manually
Synchronize the Switch Time Using SNTP
To synchronize the switch time using SNTP, follow these steps:
1. Open a CLI management session with the HP 5400zl or 8200zl switch and
access the global configuration context:
hostswitch# config
2. Enable SNTP:
hostswitch# timesync sntp
3. Set the SNTP mode:
hostswitch# sntp unicast
4. Configure the SNTP server IP address (either the domain controller or an
SNTP server with the correct time):
5. Set the timezone:
Syntax: sntp server priority 1 <ip-address>
Replace <ip-address> with the reachable IP address of the
domain controller or SNTP server.
Syntax: time timezone <-780 - 840>
The switch calculates the time zone offset in minutes. For
example, to specify GMT +1, type 60.
