Activate Call Logging
If you are having trouble with PSTN calls, you might want to activate call
logging to see where the problem occurs—whether the call is being routed
correctly through the Media Gateway, whether the call is initiating, whether
the call is being assigned a channel, and so forth.
Caution Activating call logging can negatively affect the Media Gateway’s perfor-
mance. You should only enable it when necessary and disable it as soon as
you are done troubleshooting.
In addition, the HP-SBM is capable of logging information that is considered
private in some countries. Local privacy restrictions must be considered
whenever logging is enabled. Access to log files should be carefully controlled.
Additionally, captured log files should be modified to comply with local laws
and your company’s privacy policy (for example, to remove private phone
numbers and DTMF digits) before log files are transmitted to HP, Microsoft
or any other external entity.
The box immediately to the right of Call Logging in the Telephony section
reports whether this feature is on or off (green for off because this is the
desired status during normal operation and red for on).
To enable call logging, click Start. Then place test calls (see the sections
below). After placing the calls, you can view the call logs to look for the
problem (see “View Call Logs” on page 3-16). Remember to click Stop next to
Call Logging to disable this feature after you have finished troubleshooting.
Place PSTN Call
In a PSTN test call, the SBM itself makes a call to the PSTN. This tests verifies
that the PSTN connection is up and functioning correctly. To run this test, click
Place PSTN Call in the Telephony section of the Dashboard. For guidelines, see
“Place PSTN Call” on page 2-65 of Chapter 2: “Complete the Setup Wizard.”
Place Lync Test Call
When you place a Lync Test Call, the SBM uses a test user account to place a
call through the PSTN. This test verifies the Lync configuration as well as the
PSTN configuration.
To run this test, click Place Lync Test Call in the Telephony section of the
Dashboard. For guidelines, see “Place Lync Test Call” on page 2-70 of
Chapter 2: “Complete the Setup Wizard.”
