Install Updates
To update the software of the HP Survivable Branch Communication zl
Module (SBM) powered by Microsoft Lync
TM
, you will receive an installer file,
which you run in a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session with the SBM.
The SBM’s configurations (including the Media Gateway settings) will be
preserved after the update. However, the HP SBM must reboot after the
installation. Therefore you should schedule a network outage during the
update procedure. The components using the SBM in the branch office should
automatically switch over to the main offices when the SBM is unavailable.
HP recommends performing a back up of the system prior to updating the
software and store the backup off of the SBM, see the BackUp and Restore
section in the “Manage and Monitor the HP SBM Locally” chapter in the HP
Survivable Branch Communication zl Module powered by Microsoft Lync™
Administrator’s Guide.
All Lync services will be interrupted for branch users when the SBM
reboots.
Any active peer-to-peer calls will continue and branch users will re-
register to the Enterprise Front-End Servers (if configured to do so
in the topology) during the outage.
Follow these steps to install the update:
1. Log in to the SBM via RDP.
See “Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)” on page 3-20 of Chapter 3: “Manage
and Monitor the HP SBM Locally.”
2. Save any files that you want to preserve to a USB device inserted in the
module’s USB slot or to a file share.
Note You must, of course, take appropriate measures to secure private information
in these files.
3. Obtain the software update installer. Copy it to a USB device and place
the device in the SBM module’s USB slot.
