Implement a Loopback
Table 6-5. Possible Reasons for E1/T1/J1 Alarms
Next, check the line’s loopback mode:
The loopback mode should be disabled.
Alarm Possible Problems
OOF Out of Frame The line coding or the framing format does
not match the PSTN carrier’s settings.
LOF Loss of Framing The line is experiencing a clocking problem.
Generally, the interface should take the
clock from the line (default setting).
LOS Loss of Signal
(continuity problem)
The cable is disconnected or bad.
The pinouts for the connector are
incorrect.
The local or remote hardware is not
functioning.
If you cannot resolve the problem, you can
try putting your line into loopback. See
“Implement a Loopback” on page 6-9.
AIS Alarm Indication
Signal (upstream
repeater alarm)
The PSTN carrier has an alarm on its end.
Contact the carrier and determine whether
your settings are compatible.
RAI Remote Alarm
Indication Signal
The PSTN carrier has an alarm from its
upstream device. Contact the carrier.
RED Telco Red Alarm
Condition
The PSTN carrier is experiencing a LOS or
LOF. Check that your interface is taking its
clock from the PSTN and that other settings
are compatible.
Syntax: wanpipemon -i <interface ID> -c Tlb
Replace <interface ID> with the ID that you determined ear-
lier.
